DVDNow Kiosk Tricks, Discussions and Business Ideas With a Host Store Mgr

I've put together this video for all of you that have been wondering what kind of store to put these machines in. More importantly, what kind of people do you trust that will take care of your property. I have been blessed with each of my locations. All the managers of these stores and I have a wonderful relationship. Both parties understand the concept and the DVDKiosk business has been Customized on our part to accommodate our host stores. I don't have the time to mess with the business like some folks do so watch the video and see how I do it. It doesn't mean that you have to do it this way, but I can assure you that I probably take less time that most folks do in this business. Everything on my part is automated... The host stores do the work for me too... One exception, I do have one store that I load DVD's in. It's close to my house.

Feel free to use this video for your future locations. Show it to your location owner. If you want to transfer it to video, all you have to do is watch the Youtube to Mpeg video. It will show you how to transfer it to DVD so you can show your location manager.

Sincerely,
Mike Weiland

Mike,
Enjoyed the video At the end of the video you showed a few coupons for the deli and pizza. How do you make it work? Do they show the video at the deli or the cash register? And how do you know whether or not it was rented that day or being returned?
Also how could I send this video to my store managers?

Sorry forgot this question.

If the store handles everything, what do you need to do? Do you mark the movies for unload and they only unload the movies that are qued for unload? Then do you rearrange the movies after they load or do they do all that as well? What about the tag and insert stickers? Do you get VPD to do it or does the location do this?

Yes, I do it on Monday night. All the store owner has to do is hit the "queue" button and unload. They swap the art and box, put on a new tag and we're done.

These coupons are located at the Deli, freezer, or any other place the host store wants to put them. I just popped in a few coupons that I've made and used with the Kiosk... Basically just to give you guys an idea. There have been a few posts int he "private pages" that can be used too. If I remember right, they are in Excel format so you can customize them. It's nice to have a group like this so we can use each other's material.

I've recently had jammed dvds in 2 kiosks that I have. How do you handle that situation or have you not seen it? It requires opening the back door and removing the jammed dvd. Have you given your location a key to the kiosk?

Great info. Keep it up.

Absolutely, I trust my host stores. As you see in the video. Troy and I are not only business partners, we've become good friends. Sometimes customers don't snap the boxes together all the way and this can happen. If you can trust them, they can fix it on the spot without you having to mess with it.

I have printed on a p-touch label "Please make sure case is closed tight before inserting movie. Thank You" right above the slot below the keypad.

Hi all,
I had something very interesting happen to me last week. My machine would not accept returns from customers, it kept emailing me RFID tag errors. So I rushed to my machine and could not find a thing wrong with it. To make a long story short, at closer inspection I noticed there was a dime on the circuit board. Someone had put a dime through the credit card slot. This interfered with the RFID instrumentation, it must have shielded it, or shorted it. It took me 5 hours to find that was the problem. I'm glad that was the only problem. I figured it be a good idea to pass this along....

What do you want to know about the machine? There are some discussions in the Private Blog on the machine right now.

Great video! How many stores and potential "business partners" did you have to screen to land a stand-up fellow like Troy?

Keep up the great work,
Rodrigo

Just met Troy through a local IGA manager in Billings. He's the best. AND, Prayer never hurts either.
